well, theres two scenarios to this.

First scenario.
Gordon has no choice but to sit down.


and when he sits, he loses his pride. Because he cant look down on people.
He instead have to look up to fellow buddies such as Jack yeo, Jack thia and Shengle.
Not to mention Marchand too. =/

Because of this, he often falls into depression.
